The Battery (Manhattan) | New York
SeaGlass Carousel is a carousel unlike any other, built from The Battery Conservancy’s desire to have more light filter into the park’s southern end. Inspired by the Battery’s history as the first home of the New York Aquarium, the talented architect firm, wxy, designed the 2,575 square foot pavilion (an impressively large, glass chambered nautilus) to accommodate 30 massive fiberglass fish, custom designed exclusively for SeaGlass by Show Canada. Its spiraling interior is illuminated with color-changing LED light fixtures and outfitted with integrated audio systems. Each fish is designed to mimic the bioluminescence found deep in the ocean as well as the movement of fish underwater. Since opening in August 2015, SeaGlass Carousel continues to remain one of the most popular and memorable New York City experiences for locals and travelers, alike.
